Performance Tool W87020 Power Steering Pump/Alternator Puller , Black
The tool itself is fine. Does what it’s supposed to do. Worked quite well on my ’01 GMC Jimmy 4.3L 4WD. Although it did take me nearly 15 minutes, that’s not really the tool’s fault. Here’s the scoop on the instructions. Set the tool up as instructed. Step .05 Says “Turn Center Screw to remove pulley”. …Right. It’s not that simple. With a few combo wrenches, like most folks would start with, you’re not strong enough to do the entire job. You will need LEVERAGE. That means a 1/2″ drive socket wrench with a 5/8″ impact grade deep socket and a length of strong pipe to go on the end of the wrench. At first, I used a 3/8″ drive socket wrench and came dangerously close to breaking it.Also, be forewarned that the tool comes out of the package covered in some kind of oil. It’s obviously there to prevent rust so I’m not taking a star for that as it’s a good idea. Have a rag on hand, when you open it up.
