At first, I thought, who needs a thumb grip for a camera this small, all it will do is get in the way of the camera’s good ergonomics. I wear large-Xlarge gloves, but I find the GR IIIx grip pretty comfortable. But I decided to try it anyway, and it really has made a good difference. It is sooo much easier to hold the camera one-handed with the thumb grip. And since I am often hanging the camera off a ledge or outside a car window or something, I feel much more secure with the thumb grip installed. Now, it is true it takes up the hot shoe, but I don’t use the flash for this camera all that often because it doesn’t really fit in my pocket with the camera. It is also designed well away from the controls (see pictures) so it doesn’t get in the way when I make adjustments. The fit in the hotshoe is quite secure as well, I never have to worry about it. Once you put it on, it will feel like a native part of the camera. Can’t ask for a better 3rd-party accessory than that! [...]
