The reverse features the iconic scene of the four tetrarchs (rulers of the divided Roman Empire) clustered together in front of city walls. The most famous rendering of this motif is a porphyry statue of the four tetrarchs together that now stands in Venice, having been looted from Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade in 1204.
